Wild yeasts and lactic acid bacteria are the living microorganisms that give naturally leavened breads life—literally. In this workshop, which compresses the 18-hour process into 3, you'll mix, divide, and shape dough, learn about fermentation, and score and bake off a loaf to take home. Artisanal bread at its best!
A loaf to take home
Be ready to get messy! Wear clothes that you don't mind getting covered in dough, flour and starter. If you wear jewelry on your hands and don't want to get them coated in hard to clean off dough, please remove before attending this event
Since we are a functioning bakery, we ask that long hair be pulled back and clothes be free of animal/human hair.
Meet Your Southern Oregon Coast Host
Meriah Timm has been captivated by the ancient way of creating bread through fermentation since stumbling on the labor-intensive and beautiful craft three years ago. Since then, she’s realized her dream of opening Leavened, a bakery in her hometown of Gold Beach. Leavened's name was inspired by Matthew 13:33: “He told them another parable. ‘The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened’."
